Let's talk rock and roll...

So our dear friend Nate was in town this last weekend and we had a music discussion at 4 in the morning as the sun came up in a casino cafe. I've been listening to music for the better part of the evening (at the moment: Wish You Were Here; Pink Floyd) and I am taken back about how much I love music. It can be frustrating these days, my education revolves around science, so my pursuit of the arts is strictly personal. And still, as the days whiz by with busy mind numbing facts...Somehow I ALWAYS make time for a song. As I have been here in Vegas (away form the "cool" factors and influences of the scene) I notice my own musical tastes refining a bit. Here is what I know: music is like comfort to me.
I grow strongly attached to songs and find it hard to gravitate away from what I already know and love. I am the same way with my clothes, I will wear a sweater until it has fallen apart on me. I think it is because every time I wear that particular sweater I remember the kiss I had in it, or the show I went to in it, or the train trip it went with me on. I am the same way with music and with my friends...I am a die hard loyalist. And so here is the top 10. Essentially, these are the bands I NEVER skip over (it must be noted this list excludes the "music of my brothers" a.k.a The Comfortable Low, AnnLynn, pretty much any music born out of the "Big Bears". Trust me boys, you never get skipped over).
1. Fleetwood Mac, specifically Stevie.
2. Wilco. In my opinion the best music our generation has produced.
3. Neil Young. Will always remind me of my brother.
4. Bob Dylan. The root of all things good.
5. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. As Linda says, "It is the ultimate summer music"
6. The Smiths. Very few (with the exception of the Talbots) would agree with me on this one.
7. The Smashing Pumpkins. The best angst music. Takes me right back to middle school.
8. Elliot Smith.
9. Radiohead. The Yorker is a genius, and if I did drugs I'd do them to Radiohead.
10. James Taylor...Which is weird, I know.
